The purpose of this role is to produce a high-quality work product through effective investigating, reserving, and adjusting of claims within your client base.
Responsibilities
- Analyse first report of claim, suit or underlying material to determine nature of loss, coverage provided and scope of damage
- Conduct or direct needed investigation relative to all aspects of reported claims
- Secure and/or file all supporting documentation and verify same for accuracy, relationship and completeness
- Establish accurate and timely reserves
- Maintain active diary to achieve timely development of file and timely disposition
- Provide exceptional service standards in line with best practice guidelines
- Practice sound litigation controls over counsel
- Promptly and properly document all developments in claim file
- Meet with appropriate parties to litigation or claims, as necessary, to resolve issues
- Effectively communicate with the following: Claim Department, Customer Services, Loss Control, Underwriting Departments, brokers, insureds, counsel, third parties and/or their legal representatives
- May direct claim representatives to participate in file development and subrogation
- Adhere to Insurance Contracts Act and all other relevant statutory rules and regulations
- Effectively control the use, work product and expenses of outside vendors
- Exercise good judgement in reaching final disposition of claim by evaluating nature of loss, liability, injury/damage, coverage provided and applicable limits
- Participate in branch marketing efforts
- Such other duties as may be delegated by the Claims manager
Requirements
- A tertiary qualification (law degree desirable but not required)
- Financial Lines Claims Experience
- Investigation techniques
- Written and verbal communication skills relative to claims handling
- Insurance policies and the Insurance Contracts Act
- Legal requirements and regulations
- Damage and/or loss evaluation
- Negotiations
- Industry trends
- Litigation procedures
- Reserving skills
